Ayurvedic Dinacharya-Dhyana – Meditation

Ayurveda incorporates physical, psychological as well as spiritual health. The beauty of ayurveda is that it works on all aspects of health at the same time. Meditation is advocated for psychological health and spiritual growth.

Meditation, known as “Dhyana” in Ayurveda, is an essential part of daily routine (dinacharya) for achieving mental clarity, emotional balance, and spiritual well-being.

  1. Best time for dhyana is  Early morning (Brahma Muhurta, 4-6 AM) or evening at  sunset.
  2. Choose a Quiet, clean, and peaceful space, preferably in nature or a dedicated meditation area.
  3. Perform a few gentle stretches or yoga poses to relax the body.
  4. Sit comfortably in a cross-legged position (Sukhasana) or on a chair with a straight spine.
  5. Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths to centre yourself
  6. Use techniques such as focusing on breath, a mantra, or a visual point.
  7. Maintain slow, deep, and rhythmic breathing to calm the mind.
  8. Notice thoughts and gently bring your focus back to the point of concentration, when thoughts wander don’t try hard to concentrate, just observe thoughts
  9. Slowly open your eyes and sit quietly for a few moments before resuming daily activities.
  10. Start with 10-15 minutes and gradually increase to 30 minutes or more.
  11. Make daily meditation a part of lifestyle.
