Ayurvedic Dincharya- Nasya

We have been learning about how our morning routine should be, according to ayurveda. We discussed how to practice Abhynga in our last session. Today we shall learn about another ayurvedic practice designed to prevent disease and promote health. What are its benefits and how to do it? First the benefits;    

Nasya, the Ayurvedic practice of administering oil or herbal preparations into the nostrils, offers several benefits:

  1. Clears Sinuses: Helps in clearing nasal passages and sinuses, reducing congestion and promoting easier breathing.
  2. Enhances Respiratory Health: Supports the overall health of the respiratory system, reducing the frequency of respiratory issues.
  3. Improves Mental Clarity: Enhances cognitive functions, including concentration and memory.
  4. Alleviates Headaches: Reduces the occurrence and severity of headaches and migraines.
  5. Reduces Stress: Promotes relaxation and reduces stress, anxiety, and emotional imbalances.

  1. Prepare: Sit comfortably with your head slightly tilted back.
  2. Oil: Use warm, herbalized oil like Anu Taila or plain sesame oil.
  3. Drop: Place 2-3 drops of the oil into each nostril.
  4. Inhale: Gently sniff the oil to help it move deeper into the nasal passages.
  5. Massage: Massage the outer nostrils and sinuses gently.
  6. Rest: Remain in the tilted position for a few minutes to allow absorption.
  7. Blow: Gently blow your nose to clear any excess oil and mucus.
