Vyayama
Ayurveda recommends daily exercise as part of dincharya, known as “Vyayama” in Ayurveda, is an essential part of daily routine to maintain physical health, balance doshas, and promote mental well-being. Let us see how to do exercise and which type of exercise is appropriate.
- Best time to exercise is early morning, preferably during the Kapha period (6-10 AM).
- Choose exercises suitable for your body type (Prakriti) and current health condition.
- Vata: Gentle exercises like yoga, walking, or tai chi.
- Pitta: Moderate exercises like swimming, cycling, or light jogging.
- Kapha: Vigorous exercises like running, aerobics, or intense sports.
- duration – as per ayurveda one should Exercise only until you break a light sweat, or sweat appears on forehead, approximately half of your capacity.
- Try to maintain control over breathing throughout exercise to gain the most benefits of exercise. Breath with a steady rhythm
- Warm-up/Cool-down: Include gentle stretches both before and after exercise.
- Consistency: Exercise regularly but avoid overexertion.
